Technique/Process:
Casting: Created a life cast using liquid latex for detailed skin texture, supported with a gypsum plaster bandage mother mold.
Embroidery: The flower head is crafted on a khadi cloth base, embellished with found beads of varied sizes to represent the white spots of a rafflesia flower.
Assemblage: After cleaning and preparing the mold, natural resin (Kerria lacca) was melted and poured to form the sculpture. The final piece was demolded and finished with the embroidered rafflesia head, symbolically merging body and botanical imagery.
This work was created to spark dialogue around women’s bodies by presenting them as familiar, natural,
and unashamed rather than hidden or taboo. The goal is to encourage viewers to confront and question
cultural discomfort surrounding women’s physicality, creating a space for empathy, recognition, and open
conversation.
